PHILATELIC CURRICULUM VITAE
Kees Spoelman was born June 5th, 1931 in Zutphen (The Neth.) and died October 20th, 2006 in The Hague. He was a teacher in secondairy education, in history especially. As a collector his main fields of interest were Schaumburg-Lippe (Germany), the Grimaldi’s (Monaco) and Dole (France). He also collected the countries Guatemala and Tahiti. Furthermore he collected the United Nations and United Europe. He was one of the founders of the Dutch collectors club for fiscals.
From 1983 until 1992 he was a member of the board of the Royal Dutch Association of Philatelic Societies. In 1984 he founded, together with two other gentlemen the Dutch Academy for Philately of which he was the chairman during 6 1/2 years.
In 1987 he organized an own accommodation for the literature collection (library) of the Dutch Association and on January 16th 1988 he became their first librarian which he was to stay for 12 years. For his merits he became Member of Honour of the Dutch Association and in 2000 he received the ‘Waller’ medal.
He was appointed Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London and became a member of the Académie Européenne des Etudes Postales Philatéliques. He was the Dutch commissioner at several international exhibitions (Philexfrance 1989 etc) and served the Board of the FIP Commission for Literature.
